4 Months old

Can you believe this sleeping little angel is already four months old?  I can't.  But as I watch him, he is definitely becoming his own little character.  I thought for sure he was going to be too long for his infant car seat, but coming in at only 25 inches, he has an inch to go.  However, it was surprising that he had only grown an inch in the last 10wks.  Even more surprising was his weight.  Ten weeks ago he was 12lbs 1oz today he was only 13 lbs 12oz.  Although he his healthy, eating and sleeping well, we do go back for a weight check in a month.  He is active!  He is rolling around, often getting his legs caught in the crib bars.  The other night I did find him sleeping on his tummy --and I had put him back to sleep.  When the girls started flipping over while sleeping, I let them do it, it seemed as if they were strong enough to get there that I had less to worry about, but they were older when they started.  But he seems still so young, so I asked the doctor today, she assured me that while SIDS can still be a concern, that if he is rolling over on his own, that I don't have to stress about flipping him over -that I can let him sleep.

The debates have started!  He watches everything going on and loves it when his big sisters read books to him and play games.  I thought he was too young for Candy Land, but he took it all in.

We are going to try and feed him more often during the day (When I say we, I mean me, I am going to feed him more often, one of the perks of nursing).  Hopefully this will help him gain weight.  His reflux has been pretty bad lately, but between 4 & 6 months that is suppose to get better, so we hope that will get better during the next month allowing him to retain more calories as well.

Mother's Day arrived today

My new GAS stove was installed today.  Isn't it lovely?
It has nearly all the bells and whistles...from self cleaning, delay start, a warming drawer to a simmer burner, 2 super power burners and 2 reg burners, and convection oven.  I need to get busy and start cooking!

Pancakes anyone?  The middle grate is removable and this cast iron griddle on 18K BTU...yummy food in minutes!

Who is this?

A very real conversation.  It cracked me up!

CJ: "Mommy, who is this?"
Mommy: "Ummm....I think it is Obi Won Knobi"
CJ: "No it's not"
Mommy: "You'll have to ask Daddy, I don't know"
CJ: "Yes you do, Mommy"
Mommy: "I told you who I thought it was."
CJ: "Look!"
Mommy: "I'm looking"
CJ: "Look, you know who this is."
Mommy: "You tell me"

CJ: "See" (pointing to his face) "It's Jesus!"
Of course it is.
That's right, bobblehead Jesus on some Star Wars space ship.
Here are some recent cuddles...The girls cannot get enough of Kjetil.

And we all have uncontrollable static hair.

I WON'T allow it, and HE's NOT listening!

Caution...you're about to enter a mommy hissy fit.

A couple of weeks ago I noticed that Kjetil was rocking back and forth on his back and was getting mad. So mad I thought he might just roll him self over.  He was mad that I had set him down for a couple of minutes while I desperately relieved myself (I really needed to pee and I needed him safe, away from his adoring sisters). So I was watching him and thought...no you don't...you are not going to start this too.  He had already mastered rolling from his belly to his back.
I did everything I could...I put him in the high chair, the exersaucer, I took him on trips so he was buckled down in his carseat or the stroller or the front pack.  I did all the things a mommy can do to limit his on-his-own-time so he couldn't think about it or get creative or try any new tricks.
I encouraged him to look at his beautiful hands. I gave him toys. I let CJ hold him, whenever she wanted to --well not quite whenever she wanted to, she would hold him all day if I let her.  I told him his older cousin was just hanging out so he should too.

Thursday night during pictures we didn't get any of him laying on his back, it was always an action shot -him looking over his shoulder as he rocked back and forth. Yesterday morning was the second time I found his legs stuck in the crib bars.  That little stinker was trying to roll from his back to his tummy!  How can this be, I have attempted to thwart his efforts, he was suppose to loose interest.

What could I do?

I caved.

Last night I put him on his back on the floor.

He scooted around in a circle for a bit. However, it didn't take him long, for a moment it looked like his right shoulder was going to get the best of him, but he worked it out.  And he "told" us all about it.

A friend mentioned that Kjetil is trying to keep up with his sisters. I beg to differ.   He has no intention of keeping up with his sisters, I am positive that he is planning on setting a new pace and will dare his sisters to keep up with him!

I am tired.  Mommy needs to find a new energy source.

Weekend

We had a quiet, but good weekend.  Actually, it was like a typical Easter weekend. Saturday was cold and rainy!

The mountains have fresh snow topping them now...well not now, they did on Saturday and Sunday.

The girls playing with the 'old' snow at the top of Mt. Lemmon.  CJ LOVES to climb.  She loves to climb trees -although not the thorny ones here, we are no longer a "tree hugging" family, mountains, rocks....any type of physical activity makes her very happy.
This was a shot for mommy, since I didn't go along on the Mt. Lemmon trip.

Kjetil is getting so big and adding many tricks.  He loves to sit and watch. He is trying to roll from his back to his tummy, since he has the other way mastered.

He'll be mobile in no time at all.  He already "scoots" around when he is put on the floor.

New Hope

Happy Easter everyone.  As I have been talking to the girls about Easter and what it means (FYI it doesn't mean candy, hunting for eggs or plastic grass --although those are lots of fun) but instead about the hope of Easter.  I hope you all have a wonderful Easter and are filled with new hope.

This week has been very busy for us.  And lots of pictures to share, but I want to share just a couple from today...I'm too tired to really sort through all of them.

Today we went to the zoo.  Laurelei was so happy, excited and interested in everything she saw.  It brought that warm fuzzy feeling all over me to watch her, to see the zoo through her eyes.  She was thrilled with everything.  She touched a snake, several times, she couldn't leave that exhibit, the birds thrilled her as well to no end, and the multiple viewing spots for the lions brought her new joy with each one.  Here is a picture I got while she was at the lion exhibit.

It is wonderful to watch your child to be so happy.  She was excited to see each animal, and would have stayed longer at each one if we had let her.  I am so glad we got a membership.  She and I will be returning lots I'm sure.
And here is the best animal shot I got all day.

Kjetil was awake for the whole trip, and enjoyed it as well.  CJ on the other hand, rushed from animal to animal and not nearly as interested in the exhibits.  The zoo is a wonderful size, lots to see and not too spread out.
John leaves tomorrow morning and we are planning a quiet Easter, most likely not making it to the sunrise service, but we will attend a service.  Easter is a holiday that is really nice to spend with extended family, and we miss you all, this year we will enjoy each other, without distraction, something much needed in our house right now.

EXTRA EXTRA!!

This picture is from the top of Sentil Peak, it was really dark and didn't lighten well, but when made B&W it looks like an old newspaper picture.  I love their expressions in this photo.
The city at night from the top of Sentil Peak
Saturday we headed over to Sierra Vista and went hiking in Garden Canyons.  The road was pretty rough, so we parked and hiked the road, the trails were not made for strollers or small legs, but CJ did have fun on a short little adventure with Eric and John.  Garden Canyon views.
After a bit of a tense ride back to the main base, and a MUCH needed fill up, we head out to Tombstone.

A coach ride and a walk around town finished with supper in Big Nose Kate's Saloon.   It was a great day! The weather was perfect, a bit windy and barely 70 degrees, but sunny.

Laurelei in Tombstone

Kjetil, not sure about all these activities.

CJ in Saguaro National Park.  Sunday we went here and to the desert museum. Pictures do NOT do justice.  You must visit and truly see the spectaclar views!
This is a very quick snapshot of our very busy weekend.  And here is a snapshot of the reason we played hard all weekend....

John came to visit!
He's here all week, the kids and I stayed home today, Eric headed back to work, and John went out to do some cave exploring.  We'll join back in tomorrow.
