A bad case of....
A favorite book around here right now is A bad case of Stripes by David Shannon. Today when CJ put this shirt on she said, " this is a bad case of stripes".
When she insisted on this skirt to go along with it, I thought "this is a bad case of what NOT to wear!"
Over the weekend we went to the Sharks Arena football game. It was fun, the girls had fun and CJ even went up to the shark and gave him a hug, after reassurance that it would not bite.

Sweet Corn ?!?
Apparently sweet corn season is early down here! And I must confess...I'm a snob, when it comes to my sweet corn. I NEVER buy it at a store. I rarely will buy it at farmer's market. I have such high expectations, I usually just walk by it and not give it a second thought, even though we all love it.
Eric has been inducted into the world of proper sweet corn as well. Shortly after we were married we went out to pick corn for lunch on my parents' farm. First he thought we could just go pick from which ever field we wanted to. Silly, field corn is for animals (or ethanol) Sweet corn is for eating. So as we were out picking, my mom was starting the pot of boiling water. As we were picking I asked how many he wanted and once we got to the number we needed I said it was time to go...he looked at me and said, what about for tomorrow? WHAT??? You don't pick corn before you eat it! You pick it, shuck it in the field then within 10mins of picking, you get it into the pot of boiling water. A very new concept to him...but he didn't grow up with the luxury of his own field to pick from either.
Yesterday was the case lot sale and after finding our supply of TP, CJ and I headed into the store for milk and a few other items. They had sweet corn. Let me blame it on hormones and the 5 for a buck sign, but I bought some...I bought 10 ears! We actually ate 8 of the ears and I cut the corn off the remaining two ears for left overs. It was pretty good...It was better than I expected it to be.

And it was....
I love the guesses, and I had not thought of a few of them. Jo, fairy dust? I like it, but I'm still finding it everywhere and I'm already sick of the smell, so no not this time. And the substance was....baby powder. Way to go Alexis. Thanks to everyone for playing, I'll include your prize in your package I'm sending Alexis.

A contest
So CJ was doing some quiet time today. She typically reads books, plays with her dolls or something like that upstairs. I heard her walking, but being quiet and content. My Mommy Radar was going off, but I was in the middle of my quiet time with a book and hated to give that completely up. So after a few minutes I went to check. I peered up the stairs and noticed it seemed hazy, so I went up a few more steps. CJ got to clean up her mess, but can you guess what my expressive 3 year old used as her medium today? I'll send a prize to the first one to correctly identify the substance...and it won't be what was left in the container, I threw that away. The pictures do not show just how much was everywhere...and as a side note, I was a good mommy today and did not yell at all when I found the mess. I just handed her the supplies to clean it up.

Check up
My little one had her 15 month check up today with 2 shots. She did really well. It was our first visit to her new ped. and I really like Dr. Go. She discussed with me Laurelei's growth line and feels confident that although she is below 20% for most things, she is in her growth curve and as long as she stays there she'll be fine. She made it to 20 1/2 lbs today and was 31" long. her height was actually around the 50%. Such a difference from when I took CJ at this age. Tears from the moment she got weighed, but Laurelei hardly even cried for the shots. Which once again, CJ cried more over and she and I stayed in the waiting room while Daddy took care of the shots today. Laurelei is trying to transition to 1 nap a day. She does alright for a day or so, then needs to have 2 the next couple of days. On days of only one nap, it is hard for her to stay up past 7pm, and she just wants to have a nap at that time and then get up to play more. That is not so cool with me. I'm okay with 2 naps, but I know that she will soon not need both, and that will make it easier to go to story hour and other fun morning activities.
CJ has been a big helper lately. At my appt. she told me that I had to sit on the exam table and she tried to tell the nurse my symptoms, only she was just remembering reasons why she had been to the doctor and not at all the reasons I was there. Again today she made sure that Dr. Go knew everything she could pass on about her little sister including that she knew Laurelei needed 2 shots. She has been showing off her strength as well. After sliding down a slide with Laurelei, in a blink of an eye, she had picked her up, turned around and walked up the slide carrying Laurelei. That is over half of her own body weight! Can you life half of your body weight and carry it up a slide, with no assistance? WOW she is strong. But it was very scary for mommy and we talked about why she will NOT do that again. Along with being strong she is still as flexible as ever...she can and does lick her own elbow. Try it, I know you can't do it. We're not suppose to be able to lick our own elbows. We are scouting out gymnastic opportunities for her this summer.
Eric has finished up his first set of sims and is waiting to start flying in the real plane! Not sure if it will be this week or early next, but he is excited to get flying again. We live next to the golf course and every day he drives by it and wishes he was on the course. It is tough for him to be so close to a course, with great year round weather and yet so busy with classes and studying.
We are expecting again. Although we don't want to question God's timing, it is certainly a busy year for us ahead. My due date is about Jan 13th, but I have a history of going 2+ wks early, so it could be a Dec. baby. We'll know more in the next few weeks. I've been joking that I thought it was normal to have more than one OB and to live in multiple states during a single pregnancy. We'll see what is in store for us and hopefully Eric's selection will happen in late August and give us plenty of time to figure out how to handle things.
No pictures this time, thought I'd try and come up with a thousand words instead.

Feels like summer
Feels like summer, but I know summer is going to get hotter, much much hotter. We've been keeping busy. Bike rides, Laurelei likes them now. Playing dress up and splashing outside. The base pool hasn't open yet...I don't think it does until the end of May. And there are lots of rules about setting up our own on base. So for now I just put water in the empty sandbox and let them splash away. Also CJ has been a great big sister, teach Laurelei how to play a computer game.

Happy May Day!
I can't believe how big she has gotten. Even just in the past couple of weeks, she seems to have changed. Although she didn't understand to knock and then run away, she had a blast giving away her May Day baskets and telling her friends happy May Day. Most of them had not gotten up at 6:30 as she had, and were still rubbing the sleep out of their eyes.
I can't believe my eyes when I look into hers.
