Sweet Corn ?!?

Apparently sweet corn season is early down here! And I must confess...I'm a snob, when it comes to my sweet corn. I NEVER buy it at a store. I rarely will buy it at farmer's market. I have such high expectations, I usually just walk by it and not give it a second thought, even though we all love it.
Eric has been inducted into the world of proper sweet corn as well. Shortly after we were married we went out to pick corn for lunch on my parents' farm. First he thought we could just go pick from which ever field we wanted to. Silly, field corn is for animals (or ethanol) Sweet corn is for eating. So as we were out picking, my mom was starting the pot of boiling water. As we were picking I asked how many he wanted and once we got to the number we needed I said it was time to go...he looked at me and said, what about for tomorrow? WHAT??? You don't pick corn before you eat it! You pick it, shuck it in the field then within 10mins of picking, you get it into the pot of boiling water. A very new concept to him...but he didn't grow up with the luxury of his own field to pick from either.
Yesterday was the case lot sale and after finding our supply of TP, CJ and I headed into the store for milk and a few other items. They had sweet corn. Let me blame it on hormones and the 5 for a buck sign, but I bought some...I bought 10 ears! We actually ate 8 of the ears and I cut the corn off the remaining two ears for left overs. It was pretty good...It was better than I expected it to be.
If you ever have a chance to eat sweet corn, fresh, I mean really fresh...you'll see that there is no comparison anywhere and it is really the best, I mean only way to eat sweet corn.

Laurelei loved it so much, one ear at a time wasn't enough for her!

I am totally with you on the sweet corn! I was actually just discussing sweet corn growing with my sister this morning. My dad grows THE best corn and stuff from the store just does NOT compare!

I have never grown corn. I have always just purchased what was in the store. Mike and I did stop last season and purchased some from a tent next to a farm off 32nd street. It was tasty, but that is the freshest I've tasted.

Just bought some at the store the other day and had this exact thought "Oh if Cyndy knew she would kill me". It was okay, but not like the fresh stuff we would get in ND!! One of a few things I miss from ND!!!
