An interesting thing happens when you grow up in Northeast Iowa and travel or move to new places. Things that are normal are not normal else where. Example, grass, green, lush, soft, grass. Or when my parents and my in laws took cruises to Alaska (separately however they all had a good time and want to go back) people on the cruise were amazed at the bald eagles they got to see. Meanwhile my parents and my in laws were not impressed since back home, in Northeast Iowa, not only to do they see them nearly every day, they see them much closer up, a better view.
In this part of Arizona, we do not have eagles. We do not have trees to support the eagles although we do have a snake population I wouldn't mind them coming and taking control of. We do have hawks and I see vultures circling over head waiting for the desert to claim its meal. Okay, maybe up on Mt Lemmon we could find a few eagles, I'm not really sure, but they are NOT a common occurrence around here.
Decorah has become nearly famous with its raptor cam or eagle cam. And at the time of this writing, one of the three eggs have hatched. The kids are finding this fascinating and keep saying how adorable the baby bird is. So in addition to our very own nest we are watching, we are watching the bald eagle nest in Decorah, Iowa.
