CJ worked really hard for her school's read a thon. She made the calls to people to sponsor her. She read and read and read, reading over 500 minutes and more than 25 books, and that is just the time we kept track of. She could have also counted time at school and I know there were books she read on her own time that didn't' get written down. She also made and wrote out thank you cards to all of her sponsors. She did a great job all the way around! In fact, she did such a good job she came in 5th place out of her entire school!! ( That would be over 800 students!) Her prize? An iPod Nano.
She loves it. Now that I was able to upgrade the iTunes application and put music on it for her. Did you see yesterday's post? I found it ironic that iPods, hand held gameboys and a wii were the prizes given out for a read a thon. At least an electric reader like a kindle seems to support the reading theme. The PTA worked hard at collecting and counting the monies and arranging for the prizes. The kids were very excited for them. Next year we'll have 2 kids participating, so if you want to sponsor, there is the opportunity.
After Friday's assembly and handing out of prizes, we headed to Eric's work for a costume contest. Eric was the only adult who dressed up and won the prized parking spot, but I'm not sure if he is using it. Sweetness however, came in first place and that garnered about 3 pounds of candy for a prize!
And surprisingly, there was no candy corn in the prize!
Saturday morning the school was hosting a Spooky fun run. We signed the girls up for the 1 mile kiddie race. Eric was tagging along so that Sweetness could go at her own pace and not feel left behind and CJ didn't have to stay with her.
After they took off, Kjetil took off running down the path.
Once I got him back to the main area, I learned that they had eliminated the 1 mile fun run and everyone was doing the full 5K or 3.2 miles. We then hoped in the van to go share the good news with our runners! We met up with them about the 1 mile mark and told them to keep going! We then became their cheer leaders, along the route keeping them motivated. Kjetil actually joined in the last 1.5 miles and ran his heart out the entire time. So proud of them all! The girls and Eric completed their first 5Ks! Sweetness was the youngest runner so she got shuffled in with the kindergartners who didn't fill their slots. She came in 3rd place among the kindergarteners!
CJ's time was 52:56 and Sweetness was 57:09!
It was a hilly course with the first mile entirely up hill! And that minor detail they thought they were only running one mile. So proud of them!
After the race picture, all smiles!
Whew. That keeps us a bit updated on the most recent excitement around here.
