We have several Advent and Christmas traditions. One of them is books. Each year as I put away the Christmas items, I wrap up each of our Christmas books. I use newspaper or the ends of wrapping paper. Then as Advent begins, I pull out the books and each night we get to open, one or two, and read a Christmas story together. Some are sweet, some are funny, each one read together is a memory.
This also allows the kids to take turns opening a gift and everyone gets a chance to open books before Christmas. At risk of jinxing, this seems to also help keep gifts under the tree wrapped and less tempting.
